Namik Glacier, deriving its name from Namik village, is situated in the Kumaon Himalayas within the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. The glacier is named after Namik village, which translates to a place where water flows consistently throughout the year. Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, Namik Glacier is not widely known, making it an ideal destination for those seeking solace and tranquility. The glacier is surrounded by the villages of Gogina and Namik, offering a serene and secluded environment. The region is adorned with numerous waterfalls and sulfur springs that originate around the glacier. Accessible by trekking from Gogina on the Sama Liti Road, jeeps can be hired from Bageshwar or Kapkot to reach Gogina. The name 'Namik' signifies a place with saline water springs, and while trekking around the Namik Glacier, adventurers find themselves amidst the heart of the Himalayan wilderness, surrounded by majestic peaks. Trip Itinerary
Day 1 Drive from Bageshwar to Gogina village 3-4 hrs drive and 2-3 hrs trek to Namik Village an altitude - an altitude - 7800 ft.
Arrive at Kathgodam Railway Station, from where we will drive 5-6 hours to Bageshwar, a tranquil town at the confluence of the Sarju and Gomati rivers, surrounded by the Bhileshwar, Nileshwar, Suraj Kund, and Agni Kund mountains. From Bageshwar, we drive to Gogina and trek to Namik Village.
Day 2 Namik village to Thalthok camp 5-6 hrs trek an altitude - 11,300 ft.
After a beautiful sunrise and a hearty breakfast, we’ll pack our lunches and trek to Thaltop. On today’s trek, you’ll likely encounter no one except shepherds, adding to the serene experience.
Day 3 Thalthok to Shudamkhan Camp 5-6 hrs trek an altitude - 12,800 ft.
With packed lunch, start trekking to Sudamkhan, today’s campsite. The climb can be tiring, so take rest breaks as needed. Upon reaching Sudamkhan, enjoy the spectacular views and pitch your tents for the night.
Day 4 Shudamkhan camp to Nandkund 4-5 hrs trek an altitude - 13,200 ft.
After breakfast, we trek to Nandkund in the Ramganga River Valley. The journey offers awe-inspiring views of large ice chunks and the majestic peaks of Nanda Devi and Nanda Kot, creating a sense of euphoria. We will stay overnight in Nandkund.
Day 5 Trek from Nandkund to Namik Glacier and back to Shudamkhan camp max. altitude - 13,400 ft.
After breakfast, we trek approximately 5 kilometers to reach Namik Glacier, which spans 3 kilometers. The proximity of Nanda Kot peak creates a breathtaking view, almost within arm’s reach. Enjoy the scenery and have your packed lunch amidst this natural beauty.
Day 6 Trek from Nandkund to Thala Bugyal camp 4-5 hrs trek an altitude - 10,400 ft.
Depart from Sudamkhan and trek to Namik village, a straightforward descent to the “Bhotia village”. Namik was historically central to the Indian Tibetan trade route. Explore quaint traditional structures and intricate woodcarvings. Spend the night in a village house, enjoying delicious local cuisine before retiring for the night.
Day 7 Thala Bugyal to Gogina village 4-5 hrs trek night stay in home stay/tents.
After breakfast, we trek from Thala to Gogina via Namik village. The trail to Bhotia village is easy. After 4-5 km, we reach Namik village. Continuing via the scenic Kimu village, we head towards Gogina in the Ramganga valley, nestled at the base of Nanda Kot mountain. Overnight accommodations will be in camps or homestays.
Day 8 Gogina to Kathgodam 8-9 hrs drive and depart to home town.
A vehicle will be arranged from Liti to Kathgodam via Bageshwar. After breakfast, depart early, with lunch planned en route.
