Nanda Ghunti has become a magnet for serious mountaineering enthusiasts seeking a challenge. Despite not being technically difficult, the mountain is renowned for its unpredictable weather conditions and crevasses encountered en route to the summit. Mt. Nanda Ghunti (6309 m), also known as the "Veil of Goddess Nanda Devi," is situated in the Garhwal Himalayas within the Nanda Devi National Park. This majestic peak is visible from the famous Roopkund trail, offering trekkers a glimpse of the trident-shaped Trishul massif. The summit of Nanda Ghunti provides breathtaking panoramic views of Mt. Trishul, the Chaukhamba massif, Kamet, Nanda Devi, Dronagiri, and many other surrounding peaks. The trek begins on the well-known Roopkund trail, with the path diverging towards Homkund, which serves as the base camp for the Nanda Ghunti trek. The approach to the summit follows the eastern ridge, navigating through glaciers and moraines. Trekkers are treated to clear views of Nanda Ghunti and Trishul as they make their way to Roopkund in the Himalayas. The trek to Nanda Ghunti offers not only a challenging ascent but also a visual feast of some of the most iconic peaks in the Garhwal Himalayas, making it a memorable and rewarding experience for those who undertake the journey.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1 Rishikesh to Sutol Village 7-8 hrs drive max. altitude - 7200 ft.
Upon arrival in Rishikesh/Haridwar, drive approximately 250 km to Karnaparyag, Ghat, and Sutol village. We will arrive in Sutol by evening and stay overnight in a homestay.
Day 2 Sutol Vilalge to Lata Khopri Camp 3-4 hrs trek max altitude - 10,200 ft.
Today, we embark on our trek to Latakhopri from Sutol. The journey will span approximately 5-6 hours, featuring a mix of ascents and descents typical of forest treks. Upon arrival at Latakhopri, we will pitch tents for the night.
Day 3 Lata Khopri to Homkund camp/Base Camp 5-6 hrs trek 14,600 ft.
Today, we will advance from Lata Khopri to Homkund, our base camp. The glacial lake of Homkund is renowned, particularly due to its association with the Nanda Devi Raj Yatra, which occurs once every 12 years.
Day 4 Rest day at Base Camp and acclimatization day.
Today, we will rest at the base camp, allowing our bodies to acclimatize effectively and prepare for the days ahead.
Day 5 Base Camp to Advanced Base Camp Load Ferry 15,200 ft. and back to Base Camp.
Today, we transport loads from Base Camp to Advance Base Camp before returning to Base Camp to rest for the night.
Day 6 Base camp to occupy Advance base camp an altitude -15,100 ft.
Today, we will relocate to the Advance Base Camp (ABC) and spend the night there to facilitate acclimatization. Overnight accommodation will be in tents.
Day 7 Advance base camp to Camp 1 rout open max altitude - 18,300 ft and back to Advance base camp.
Today, we transport loads from Advance Base Camp (ABC) to Camp 1 before returning to ABC, where we will spend the night.
Day 8 Advance base camp to occupy Camp 1 an altitude - 18,400 ft.
Today, we proceed to Camp 1 and settle in for the night, allowing our bodies to acclimatize to the high altitudes. Overnight accommodation will be in tents.
Day 9 The day climb from Camp 1 to Summit Camp 19,400 ft and back to Camp 1.
Today, we transport loads from Camp 1 to the summit camp before returning to Camp 1 to rest for the night.
Day 10 Camp 1 to occupy Summit Camp an altitude - 19,400 ft.
We will proceed to establish Summit Camp, fixing ropes as necessary and preparing for the summit push the following day. Overnight accommodation will be in tents.
Day 11 Summit Camp to attemped Summit an altitude - 20,699 ft and back to Camp 1
Today, we will commence our summit push between 2-3 am. Upon reaching the summit, you will behold the magnificence of surrounding peaks like Trishul, Bertoli, Chaukhamba, Kamet, Nanda Devi, and more. After cherishing the moment, we descend to Camp 1 for overnight camping.
Day 12 Camp 1 to Homkund camp/Base Camp 5-6 hrs trek 14,600 ft.
We will retrace our steps, descending to the base camp, where we will spend the night resting. Overnight accommodation will be in tents.
Day 13 Base Camp to Sutol Village 7-8 hrs drive max. altitude - 7200 ft.
We will retrace our steps, concluding our magnificent expedition at the village of Sutol. Overnight accommodation will be in a homestay.
Day 14 Sutol to drive to Rishikesh 5-6 hrs drive and depart.
We’ll depart early and drive to Dehradun, where we bid you farewell.
Day 15 One day is extra with bufferday.
