Kanakata Pass (4483 m) is a high-altitude pass located in the Sunderdunga Valley in the Bageshwar District of Uttarakhand. The trekking trail to Kanakata Pass takes you through picturesque landscapes, including Sunderdunga Valley, Sukram Valley, and Baluni Top, starting from Jatoli. Along the trail, you'll encounter Nag Kund and Devi Kund, two small scenic lakes near the pass. These lakes are surrounded by small hills, offering spectacular views of the valley. After crossing Kanakata Pass, you will reach the Jatoli Campsite. The entire trek provides a diverse and visually stunning experience as it passes through Sunderdunga Valley, Baluni Top, and Sukram Valley from Jatoli. The presence of Devi Kund and Nag Kund adds to the natural beauty of the trek, providing tranquil spots amid the mountains. The pristine lakes and the surrounding scenery make Kanakata Pass a rewarding destination for trekkers seeking both adventure and the serene charm of the Uttarakhand Himalayas.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive bageshwar - Jatoli Village 8-9 hrs drive and 7 km trek to village an altitude - 8,100 ft.
After lunch, trek to Jaitoli Village from Kharkiya. Khati is the largest village on the way to the Pindari Glacier, situated on the bank of the Pindar River. Jaitoli is the last village on the Sunderdhunga trek route. Dinner and overnight stay in Jaitoli village.
Day 2 Jatoli Village to Kathaliya camp Camp 6-7 hrs trek max altitude - 12,200 ft.
After breakfast, trek to Khatliya Base Camp from Jaitoli Village (14km), passing through thick alpine forests with a moderate grading. Dhungiadhaun is 8 km from Jaitoli, and the next stop is Kathaliya, situated at 3,260 m elevation. Dinner and overnight stay in tents at Kathaliya.
Day 3 Kathaliya camp to Bhandar camp (Shukram Cave) 5-6 hrs trek via baloni top an altitude - 13,600 ft.
The trek to Belooni top spans 4 km and entails a steep and tiring climb, but the rewards are immense with stunning views of the Himalayas. Situated at 12,000 ft , it offers clear vistas of Maiktoli, Panwalidwar, Nanda Devi East, and Baljuri peaks. Dinner and overnight stay in tents at Belooni top.
Day 4 Bhandar camp to Patharkunia campsite via cross Kanakata pass 16100 ft.then camp in Patharkunia.
After breakfast, trek 2 km to Kanakata Pass and then 6 km to Patharkunia campsite, taking 5-6 hours. Post lunch, dinner and overnight stay in tents at Patharkunia Campsite, approximately at an altitude of 11,900 ft.
Day 5 Patharkhunia Camp to Jatoli Village 4-5 hrs trek an altitude - 8100 ft.
After breakfast, trek 8 km to Jaitoli village from Patharkunia campsite. Post lunch, traverse dense oak, deodar, and other tree forests.
Day 6 Jatoli Village to Kharkiya Bageshwar 13 km trek than 56 km drive to Bageshwar
After breakfast, trek 13 km from Jaitoli Village to Kharkiya. After lunch in Kharkiya, drive back to Bageshwar. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Bageshwar.
