A saddle between two magnificent mountains

Ronti Saddle stands at an elevation of 5200 meters and serves as a challenging saddle between the magnificent Himalayan peaks of Nanda Ghungti and Trishul, situated close to the Nanda Devi Inner Sanctuary. The trek to Ronti Saddle typically starts from the popular Roopkund side, and to reach it, you traverse the Sheela Samudra valley after crossing the Junairagali Pass above Roopkund. The journey to Ronti Saddle also offers an encounter with the mystery and history of Roopkund, famously known as the Skeletal Lake. Roopkund is a small circular high-altitude glacial lake surrounded by snow for most of the year. The lake is known for its collection of human bones, which are more visible when the snow cover is less. The trek includes exploration of some of the best bugiyals or meadows in the Himalayas, namely Bedni Bugiyal and Ali Bugiyal. Additionally, you'll pass through Sheela Samudra, a glacier of Mount Trishul, characterized by tarns and boulders. Witnessing avalanches is a common occurrence in this region, often happening opposite to your camp in the glacier. The trail also takes you through the lovely villages of Sutol and Sitel, offering beautiful campsites and a sense of remoteness. Overall, the trek to Ronti Saddle provides a unique and adventurous experience, encompassing stunning landscapes, glacial lakes, and the rich cultural heritage of the region.
