Chardham Yatra

Chardham Yatra refers to a pilgrimage circuit in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, encompassing four sacred destinations: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. These four sites are located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand and hold great religious significance in Hinduism. Pilgrims undertake this yatra to seek spiritual purification and blessings. 1. **Yamunotri:** - Yamunotri is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, and it is the source of the Yamuna River. - The Yamunotri temple is situated at an altitude of about 3,293 meters in the western Himalayas. 2. **Gangotri:** - Gangotri is dedicated to Goddess Ganga (the Ganges), and it marks the source of the Ganges River. - The Gangotri temple is located at an elevation of approximately 3,100 meters. 3. **Kedarnath:** - Kedarnath is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas (divine representations of Lord Shiva). - The Kedarnath temple is situated at an altitude of about 3,583 meters, amidst the breathtaking Kedar Valley. 4. **Badrinath:** - Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and is one of the Char Dham sites. - The Badrinath temple is situated at an altitude of approximately 3,133 meters near the Alaknanda River. The Chardham Yatra usually follows a specific route: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Pilgrims often start from Yamunotri and proceed in a clockwise direction. The yatra is generally undertaken during the summer months, typically from April/May to October/November, as the winter snow makes these sites inaccessible during the colder months. The Chardham Yatra holds immense religious and cultural significance for Hindus, and it is believed that undertaking this pilgrimage can lead to spiritual upliftment and liberation from the cycle of birth and death. Pilgrims also believe that visiting these sacred sites washes away their sins and brings them closer to the divine. The yatra attracts thousands of devotees and tourists each year, contributing to the cultural and economic vitality of the region.
