The Kafni Glacier is located in Kumaon Himalayas

The Kafni Glacier, nestled in the Kumaon Himalayas in Uttarakhand, is a captivating destination that can be accessed from both Almora and Kathgodam, depending on the chosen route. The common starting point for this glacier is Bageshwar, and from there, the journey passes through several picturesque villages before reaching Khatiya, the gateway to the Kafni Glacier. The glacier serves as the source for the Kafni River, which eventually merges with the Pindar River. One of the reasons for the popularity of the Kafni Glacier is its accessibility and the relatively easier challenge it presents compared to the nearby Pindari Glacier. Beyond 'Zero Point,' the glacier can be approached without the need for specialized equipment, making it an attractive option for trekkers. The trek to Kafni Glacier commences from Loharkhet, where trekkers embark on a journey that takes them through steep uphill sections paved with stones and dense woods, eventually opening up to gentle meadows. The trek from Dhakuri leads to Khati, situated at an altitude of 2,265 meters, passing through the serene landscape. Continuing towards Khatiya via Dwali camp, trekkers encounter the pale blue waters of the Pindari River flowing over a bed of grey boulders. The awe-inspiring sight of Nanda Kot adds to the enchanting experience, captivating trekkers with its towering presence. The downhill trek from Kafni leads to Dwali, then diverts to Wachum, approximately 13 kilometers away. From Wachum, the trail heads back to Loharkhet, passing through Dhakuri once again. The Kafni Glacier Trek is rated as an easy to moderate trek in the Kumaon Himalayan region and typically takes around 6-7 days to cover the entire route. This trek is an excellent choice for novice trekkers looking to experience the beauty of trekking in the Indian Himalayas. The journey to Kafni Glacier unfolds amidst stunning landscapes, lush meadows, and the grandeur of the Himalayas, making it a memorable adventure for trekking enthusiasts.
